Protecting the natural and cultural resources of the Brandywine watershed and other selected areas, the Environmental Management Center has been instrumental in permanently protecting more than 58,000 acres of land through services to landowners, farmers, municipalities, and developers.

The Environmental Management Center provides conservation services to landowners, farmers, municipalities and developers. The staff of professional planners and natural resource managers offers technical assistance and expertise for conservation and comprehensive land use planning. Conservation easements, assistance to local governments and water protection efforts are the key elements of these programs.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you are interested in learning about the natural and cultural resources of the Conservancy’s preserves, and helping to provide essential support in their stewardship, join our volunteer program.

The EMC’s Land Stewardship program has two exciting opportunities for volunteers:

The Trail Steward Program starts this spring at the Laurels Preserve. Interested volunteers will be trained to become Conservancy “ambassadors” at the preserve, greeting and engaging members visiting the Laurels, sharing information about the preserve and its important natural and cultural resources, and assisting staff in maintaining the network of trails.

We also need Preserve Stewards to assist with a variety of hands-on projects. These may include trimming vegetation, building or repairing water diversion bars along trails, pulling or cutting non-native invasive plants, and planting and maintaining trees and shrubs. All of the necessary training and tools will be provided by Conservancy staff.

Training begins June 5, so please contact us to sign up today!
